Prospective Evaluation of Chronic Pancreatitis

What is the Purpose of this Study?

The purpose of this study is to gain knowledge about chronic pancreatitis and discover new ways to detect, treat, and help prevent the disease. Chronic pancreatitis occurs when the pancreas is affected by inflammation and scarring. Researchers aim to learn how the diagnosis can be made earlier; why and how chronic pancreatitis progresses, and the genetic factors that may affect the chances of developing the disease. The study will also examine the natural history of chronic pancreatitis and the course of the condition over a long period of time. Participants in this study either have definite chronic pancreatitis, suspected chronic pancreatitis, or chronic upper abdominal pain that may be coming from the pancreas. Healthy controls (individuals with no pancreas disease) will also be enrolled.
