This study focuses on people who have internal bleeding (free fluid) or who may have free fluid in the abdomen, cardiac or lung areas due to trauma or another medical condition that may require an Extended Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma (EFAST) exam. Researchers would like to obtain images from these areas of the body with an ultrasound using the EFAST exam scanning procedures and collect relevant clinical data from the patient’s medical records. The EFAST scanning procedure is routinely performed in many people who may have a possibility of free fluid or another medical condition in the abdomen, cardiac, and/or lung areas. The EFAST scans and clinical data collected in this study will be used to develop an investigational software that could detect free fluid in patients suspected of the condition. Such software may support and improve the performance and workflow of the EFAST exam scanning procedures in the future. Both ultrasounds and transducers used in this study have been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is hoped that if the software developed using these devices is successful in detecting free fluid in the future, the diagnosis will be faster and more accurate.
