WISE HFpEF

What is the Purpose of this Study?

We are doing this study in new cohorts of women and men with small vessel disease (a condition in which the small arteries in the heart become narrowed) and HFpEF (a condition with inadequate heart muscle function in the setting of preserved muscle pumping). We want to have better understanding of HFpEF for therapeutic strategy development and optimized noninvasive cardiac MRI for the diagnosis and management of Coronary Microvascular Dysfunction (CMD) and Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF).

Eligibility

  • Symptomatic angina or anginal equivalent
  • Symptoms of heart failure (HF)
  • Preserved ejection fraction, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≥45% prior to study entry.
  • No evidence of any of the following: Primary valvular heart disease (moderate regurgitation or>mild stenosis), primary cardiomyopathies (hypertrophic, infiltrative or restrictive), constrictive pericarditis, high-output heart failure, and right ventricular myopathies)
  • No history of or plan for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) for obstructive coronary atherosclerosis
