Faith in Action! A Church-Based Navigation Model to Increase Breast Cancer Screening in Korean Women

What is the Purpose of this Study?

The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether a curriculum called “Faith in Action!” increases adherence to breast cancer screening guidelines among Korean American women within faith-based settings. Specifically, individuals who attend a Korean church in Los Angeles county are invited to train to become health navigators/ educators to increase breast cancer screening in their church community. Study procedures include attending a workshop and completion of questionnaires and interview. Navigators are randomly assigned to lead a specific group at their church and are responsible for recruiting and educating people who may benefit from breast cancer screening.


Eligibility

  • * Korean woman who is 45 years or older
  • * Does not currently have a breast cancer diagnosis
  • * Non-adherent to cancer screening (did not receive mammogram in last 2 years based on self-report)
  • * Prospective or current member of participating Korean Churches
