What is the Purpose of this Study?

This will be a double-blind human study with a Fis intervention cohort and placebo control cohort. We will obtain high purity Fis from our colleague Dr. Kirkland and his team. We have two target demographics for this study that will be randomized to either Fis or placebo: our primary group will be adults at least 60 years old with 10+ pack-year smoking history (target n = 20) and our comparison group will be adults at least 60 years old who never smoked (target n = 20). We will evaluate multiple parameters in pulmonary function in both groups and monitor rate of change over time.
